Sustainability is talked about everywhere. But what does it actually mean and how can I live more sustainably? A vegetarian-to-vegan diet, cycling more or avoiding plastic waste are all examples of how you can make your everyday life more sustainable. But environmental protection does not only affect everyday life but also other areas such as leisure time, holidays and professional life.

In this blog post, we would like to take a closer look at a sustainable workday.

We’ll give you a glimpse behind the scenes of matabooks and share our experiences as well as a few tips – so stay tuned.

By the way, did you notice that there are exactly 12 tips? If you take one more tip to heart each month and put it into practice, you will have made a huge step towards professional sustainability in one year. But first step by step.

What role does sustainability play at matabooks?

“Holistically sustainable”, is the motto matabooks dedicated itself to when it was founded in 2018 and we work every day to make our products and our work more sustainable. Even with the name “Mata” from the Indian original language Sanskrit, which means something like mother or respect for mother earth, our company has consciously chosen nature and its protection of it.

But that is not always so easy. In a world where consumption and consumption are not thought through enough and many companies only focus on profit, climate protection is unfortunately far too often secondary. At matabooks, sustainability comes first and we want to integrate all three levels – ecology, economy and social issues – in a holistic way. In the following 12 tips, you can find out exactly how this can be done. So get informed, actively redesign your everyday life and establish a new standard – let’s go!

12 Simple Tips for a more conscious use of Resources in everyday Working life

1. Switch off Electrical Appliances

Devices that do not need electricity all day should be switched off completely. Especially after work, our computers, printers and other machines should no longer be in constant standby mode. Who wants to be in stand-by mode all the time?

2. Energy Guzzlers Light

Care should be taken to switch off lights as soon as they are no longer necessary. Offices with large windows are particularly advantageous as a lot of daylight is let through.

3. Heating

This should be switched off when there is ventilation or no one is in the room. When it is cold outside, the heating can run at a lower level rather than on-off all the time.

In order to keep an overview of these factors, energy consumption should be documented and, if necessary, adjusted, and a checklist should be developed. The last people to leave the office make sure that all items are checked off and that no unnecessary energy is consumed.

4. Sustainable Alternative to Paper

The matabooks Grass Paper Office Supplies with paper sheets, envelopes, and much more in various sizes, thicknesses and shapes offer a simple, high-quality alternative to conventional print products or paper. In addition, our personal Calendars and Notebooks are our most important companions during office stress. The sustainably produced books offer space for creative development and structure so as not to miss appointments or deadlines. Are you still looking for a faithful companion in everyday life? Then take a look at our Shop.

5. Paper Scraps & Misprints

The supposed waste can still be put to great use as scrap paper or shipping materials. In this way, we save additional acquisition costs and reduce the burden on the environment.

6. Waste Separation & Plastic Reduction

For more sustainability, it makes sense to avoid or reduce waste. The waste produced should at least be separated accurately so that all components can be better recycled. You can find more information on this in our blog post “Waste separation & disposal of matabooks – the right way!”

In addition to the economic and ecological aspects, the social component is also part of holistic sustainability. This includes, among other things, workplace design and the well-being of employees.
Here are 7 concrete tips on how you can make your everyday working life socially sustainable.

7. Shared Workspace

At matabooks, we work in two large offices. This promotes creative exchange, motivation and effective collaboration.

8. Daylight & Plants

Overall, our offices are bright and friendly. Plenty of daylight as well as a large family of plants promote a positive working atmosphere and provide fresh oxygen.

9. Workplace

A large table makes it possible to work together or discuss projects. Nevertheless, each employee also has his or her own fixed workstation, which can be individually designed and used as a quiet working area.

10. Health First

When setting up your personal workstation, pay particular attention to the correct adjustment of computer screens and chairs. This can prevent back pain and tension and improve well-being.

11. Work-Life-Balance

If circumstances allow, joint lunches or other activities are part of the daily work routine. They help to strengthen the group dynamic and create a balance.

12. Social Commitment

It is particularly important to us that we look out for each other. Therefore, social sustainability plays an important role not only internally, but also in the form of support for social projects or other regional and sustainable companies.

We hope that this article has given you some new inspiration to make your everyday work – whether in the office or home office – more sustainable.
