Get creative with ease – #drawtober 2021

matabooks not only stands for sustainable and vegan books made from Grass Paper but also for the promotion of artists. For all our products, we work closely with creative minds.
That’s why things got especially creative on our Instagram page in October.

We have given numerous illustrators and tattoo artists a platform to present their art to an even wider audience.

They have all designed our Samaya Easy M Year Planner and turned it into beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces. Let them inspire you to design your own Easy M. Whether for yourself or as a gift for your loved ones, the blank annual planner offers you a canvas on which you can let off steam and get creative.

Designs that get under your skin

… in the truest sense of the word. We have consciously chosen to work not only with talented illustrators but also with tattoo artists. Because they create something unique.

Kim’s cover design shows that she not only knows how to use a needle, but also pen and paper. Just like this motif, no tattoo by the Dresden Tattoo Studio Erika & Kurt comes off the shelf. Because tattoos are more than just ink. They are art and getting them is a very personal and intimate event.

Abstract and minimalist – that is Kira’s style. She is also a tattoo artist. She loves to play with shapes and place them on the body in an aesthetic way. She transformed the Easy M into a unique abstract piece by working with different stroke widths.

Andy used beautiful, warm colors for his autumnal motif in the form of cheerful ginkgo leaves. These not only look beautiful but also have a deeper meaning: the ginkgo is a symbol of hope and long life. A great symbol that will accompany the lucky owner of the planner through the next year.

As beautiful as nature

Not only flowers and leaves were to be discovered in Drawtober but also designs that included animal motifs in keeping with our philosophy. Anja staged a koi carp with golden accents. She is an illustrator from northern Germany. Her great love is painting faces and portraits, but also animals and plants with watercolor. She also never leaves home without a sketchbook. She already designed our “Good Vibes Only” Calendar for 2021.

Ursula was inspired by Easy M itself. When she notices the smell of the grass paper, she feels as if she is sitting in a meadow, surrounded by bees and butterflies. Not only art is close to her heart, but also the environment, nature, and animals have been incredibly important to her since childhood. Therefore, the cooperation with us is a project of the heart for her, as she says herself.

Mandy’s art focuses on nature and the uniqueness of every living creature. In her paintings, she prefers to devote herself to animal portraits and experiments with different media. The cover of Easy M is adorned with two lovebirds nestling together amidst a thicket of leaves. This motif carries a wonderful tranquillity. Does her style sound familiar? That’s right: she already illustrated our Jana “Snail” Notebook for us.

Technology and progress in harmony with nature. That’s how you can interpret Nadine’s design. She thought for a long time about what she could draw on the Easy M. Sea creatures. A snail? An insect meadow? But then she decided on plants – to match the grass paper. For this, she combined natural objects and technical, geometric shapes. A very exciting contrast.

Like yoga with paper

Being artistic and letting off steam is liberating. Like “yoga with paper” – that’s how Tanja describes it when she pursues her hobby and can switch off. Over the years, she has developed a unique style to which she remains true. When designing the Easy M, she used the Brushpen from Skullpaper in a very special way: She used it to color the stamps she used to print the cover. The result is a beautiful vintage look for our year planner.

These were just a few examples. You can check out all of our Drawtobers on our Instagram Page. Also, feel free to check out the wonderful artists who have turned our heads with their work and leave some love. By the way, for all illustrations we used the Blackliner by Skullpaper, which was kindly provided to us for this campaign.

You too can be creative

Just like all these artists, you too can give free rein to your creativity. Our Easy M gives you room to breathe. It gives you a place where you can develop freely. You can turn it into an unmistakable one-of-a-kind piece that will accompany you all year round.
